10 good reasons to be a young adult in STL - CIVITAS-STL
This is Luke Babich. He’s a dynamic speaker.

Saturday, January 27,  we are pleased to have Luke Babich return as guest speaker. (He joined us as mayor of the 2017 Mock City Council & What’s it like to run for office as a 22 year old) This time around Luke will be talking about why he came to St. Louis after graduating from Stanford and what opportunities the city has for young people. The media always focuses on the negatives of our city but this will be a chance to learn about some of the hidden perks.

  • The event will be from 9-11 am at the Civitas office
  • Light breakfast snacks will be provided
  • Like all Civitas events, it’s free to attend but we’d like students to R.S.V.P

We’ve Spoken with Luke & he shared with us some of the things he will talk about on Saturday:

The Future of Work in Saint Louis

For decades, St. Louis was an economic powerhouse, a leader in manufacturing, fashion and creative services.

What caused the city to shrink and decline? — and what is the new generation of St. Louis activists and entrepreneurs doing to bring it back?

Luke Babich will share stories about the growing St. Louis renaissance, and the opportunities it offers young people to be part of a city-building movement in the Midwest.

Come to learn about:

  • Why three designers left NYC to bring their fashion brands to downtown St. Louis (hint: it’s got something to do with our Garment District)
  • Why this venture capital firm started a $100M fund devoted solely to Midwest startups
  • Why a new generation of activists and social workers think the moment is right to end centuries-old problems that have held back our city’s growth

Bio: Luke Babich returned home to St. Louis in 2016, after graduating from Stanford University. Since then, Luke has worked on four local political campaigns (including his own campaign for City Council), worked in management and business development for a digital storytelling company downtown, become one of the managing editors of EQ Magazine and started a $1.2M real estate investment business renovating old St. Louis homes.
