During the 2008-2009, seventeen students won cash awards in the Civitas / Pulitzer essay contest on women and children’s rights. Thirteen of these student received an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, DC in July, 2009 for special training at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
In 2009-2010, we are broadening the criteria for awards. Student participation in all Civitas (ActiveCitizen360) / Pulitzer activities is being tracked. This includes:
- Iinvolvement in model United Nations
- Participating in discussion groups
- Being a Member of Urban Go-Team
- Participating in Genocide Conference in February
- Blogging with Pulitzer Global Gateway journalists
- Creating "My Stories" for the Global Gateway program
- Entering the Pulitzer essays in spring
- Recruiting new students to ActiveCitizen360 programs
- Participating in special Saturday field trips
- Attending Friday night movies
- Opening and reading our e-newsletters
- More activities as they develop.
Periodically we discreetly send information on student points to those who are among the top twenty at any given time. Our next update will be on January 11, 2010. We will let each student know how many points he / she has accumulated to date and where he / she ranks among all students in ActiveCitizen360 / Pulitzer programs.
No later than April 1, 2010 we will announce our trip for summer, 2010 and let each student know his or her chances of being invited based on his or her participation in our programs.
As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@civitas-stl.com or (314) 367-6480.
