2008 Urban Go-Team Underway
|
|
The Civitas Urban Go-Team began yesterday with a most informative trip to the St. Louis County Board of Election Commissioners. Staff member Eric Fey did an outstanding job of impressing students with how complex the electoral process is and what safeguards St. Louis County takes to ensure maximum fairness and expediency. Students learned the importance of having a "paper trail" in the electoral process, whether the voting device is touch-screen or an optical scanner. Many students indicated interest in working the polls at upcoming elections in August and November. In the afternoon we went to five different MetroLink stops to register voters. It was tedious and somewhat intimidating work, but collectively we managed to bring twenty-eight new individuals on to the rolls in Missouri. The is a project that we will continue on an on-going basis. Information on what lies in the future for Urban Go-Team is available below.
