Dear Bobbi,
A Rare Definitive Answer

Politicians who are often considered possible candidates for a new political office, often deny their interest.  A reporter frequently pushes them on "how disinterested" they are.  Below is an interesting answer (in blue and bold) from former Vice-President Al Gore on any possible interest he might have in being a running mate for Barack Obama:

MR. BROKAW:  Could you, could you be talked into going back into government?

VICE PRES. GORE:  No.  This (remaining in the private sector) feels like the right thing for, for me to be doing.

MR. BROKAW:  It's Shermanesque (referring to statement by Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman)........There are--under no conditions would you go back into government.

VICE PRES. GORE:  General Sherman famously said, "If nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve." .....  I've already been elected and didn't serve.

In answer to "If you could have ....
