Thanks to all the students who came to last Saturday's discussion group at Crossroads; we had some most engaging discussion, first on diversity of schools, then on reproductive health, choice, life (choose the word that frames the issue best for you). Thanks to Sara Harrington for calling us to task for backing off some controversial issues last year; we're try to make sure that we're open for all polite conversation. So much happening now. Needless to say, we would like interested students and adult to attend. Here they are in summary (more details below): - Discussion group this Saturday, Sept. 6. While it's fair game for any topic, we'll get a special report from Michelle Ki (see story on right) about the Democratic convention in Denver.
- Discussion group but also prep session for "Water Wars" Pulitzer Global Gateway project on Saturday, Sept. 13. We want all interested teachers and students to attend to help us better prepare for the journalists. Pulitzer Center director Jon Sawyer will be in attendance to discuss the project and much more.
- Eric Greitens on public service on Saturday, Sept. 20. He brings a much more nuanced dimension to the conversation; we really hope you can make it.
- Voting rights for high school seniors and juniors -- a public conversation with students and adults at the Missouri History Museum on Thursday, Sept. 25.
- Washington University Model United Nations on Oct. 15 - 17; you can now registrer at www.wumuns.org.
Again, for this Saturday we'll meet at Crossroads College Preparatory School, 500 DeBaliviere; 63112 (map) from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. We will have our usual tasty snacks with some de riguer healthy food included. We urge you to attend and bring a friend or two!

Photo Exhibit Angelia Moore of Oakville High School has informed us of a exhibit on the effects of genocide and warfare on Bosnia which is showing at Southern Commercial Bank at 5515 So. Grand; 63111 (map). The exhibit is co-sponsored by the St. Louis Holocaust Center and Fontbonne University. It includes photos as well as documents related to prosecuting international war criminals (a very timely topic now). The exhibit will be on display through the end of September.

Civitas at Dem. Convention Civitas's senior political reporter (actually she's a junior at Parkway West High School), Michelle Ki, was at the Democratic National Convention in Denver last week. You may have seen her as a volunteer in the crowd of more than 80,000 at Invesco Field (or maybe you didn't). At this Saturday's Civitas discussion group, Michelle will report about inspiring moments such as the addresses by Senator Ted Kennedy, Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama. We've also asked her to include the flip side, including the:: 1. Hypocrisy 2. Pandering 3. Excess If she had been at the Republican convention, we would have asked her to report in a similar fashion. We're excited to hear what she says; we will have more about it later on our web page at www.kidswhothink.org.
