Survey on Presidential Propriety
Last Thursday evening, President Barack Obama appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Some people have felt that it is inappropriate for a sitting president to appear on a show such as Jay Leno's. We're interested in your thoughts on this issue; you can let us know by clicking here. If you didn't see it, you can catch it now.

Discussion Group this Saturday
Thanks to everyone who came to last Saturday's Civitas discussion group. We had lively conversation on the use of personal electronic media devices (cell phones, etc.) in classrooms and courtrooms [reported in NY Times]. We also talked about how the current recession has impacted the schools that the students attend. Finally, we brainstormed ideas for this Spring & Summer's Civitas Urban Go-Team.
Our next discussion group is this Saturday, March 28 at Crossroads (map) from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Among other topics, we'll have info on the upcoming Pulitzer Global Gateway program on "women, children, crises" as well as the latest Urban Go-Team news. Plans Proceed for next Pulitzer Global Gateway Project
As we prepare for the "Women & Children in Crisis" project in April, the Pulitzer Center continues. Director Jon Sawyer has just left Istanbul where he attended an international conference on water issues. He was joined by Alex Stonehill of the Common Language Project. Jon and other journalists contracted by the Pulitzer Center have posted new material on the web site that enhances existing information about water wars. You can check it out clicking here.
Jon is off to Ethiopia and Kenya to continue his reporting.
In the meantime, three other journalists who have covered issues related to discrimination towards women and children in Nepal, Iraq, and the Congo will be coming to St. Louis April 20-22 as part of the next Pulitzer Global Gateway project. New information will be presented on March 30 when most participating school's spring vacations are over. You can look forward to a video introduction that day. We also will be sending you information on local connections to this topic.

Collinsville Students Become Formidable Force in Local Elections
Facebook is described as a social networking organization, but every once in a while the content moves into the political arena. Thanks to some outstanding work by present and former Civitas participants from Collinsville [IL], Facebook is being used to promote far more civic engagement.
A group called "CoCo" [Collinsville Connection] is working as student watchdogs on the workings of the Collinsville local city government. Much of the work has been done by Jed Robbins ('08), Joe Rule ('08) and Tyler Doyle ('09). In an effort to get students more engaged in the upcoming April 7 local elections, they are sponsoring a free outdoor showing of the 2008 movie "Swing Vote." It will be on Saturday, April 4 from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM, at the public parking lot at the corner of Main and Seminary in Collinsville (map). For more information, go to http://uptown.collinsvilleil.org. Additional information is also available by clicking here.
