Change the World: Choose A Country
While middle school teachers drafted countries for their schools yesterday, high school students will gather at Crossroads College Preparatory School (map) this Saturday, Oct. 17 at 9:00 AM for their country draft.

You can access a list of the 192 countries in the United Nations General Assembly by
clicking here.  Students should know that we will be working with one plenary session (no committees); thus ensuring that there will be far more countries than usual selected.

You can learn more about how the country draft works by:

Middle School Teachers Select Countries for M.U.N.s

Yesterday faculty advisors for the Civitas Middle School Model U.N. met to draft countries for the eight dates in the spring when they will have sessions.  Each group will have a diverse group of countries discussing and voting on key human rights as well as economic and social issues.  The next big event is a morning workshop for nearly 800 middle school students and teachers on Wednesday, November 18 from 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM at the Khorassan Room in the Chase-Park Plaza (map).  Thanks so much to Lisa Granich-Kovarik for organizing yesterday's meeting; in fact organizing the entire middle school program.

Students See "CAPITALISM: A Love Story"
Last Friday evening, thirteen students went to see Michael Moore's film, CAPITALISM: A Love Story.  The film provided much to discuss; and that we did.  You may be interested in a "fact check" on the movie provided by PolitiFact.com.  You can access it by clicking here.

We also have a Facebook blog on the film available here.

More photos are available by clicking here.

Our next movie night will be Friday, October 3 when we show Robert Redford's film "The Candidate" at the Civitas office (map) [6:00 PM - 9:30 PM].

We collaborate quite a bit with St. Louis' on-line newspaper, the Beacon.  Bob Duffy of the Beacon recommends an excellent story to us about three law school graduates fresh out of St. Louis University and the public interest law in which they are involved.  You can access it by clicking here.
