We have two questions relating to the current discussion on health care in the United States:

  1. Is it the responsibility of the United States government to ensure that all citizens have access to adequate health care?
  2. If you said 'Yes,' do you favor either a "medicare for all" program where the government provides coverage for all or a 'public option' whereby the government offers its own plan to compete with private ones?

High School Students Selection Countries for MUN
Last Saturday high school students gathered at Crossroads College Preparatory School in preparation for their November 21 Model U.N.  Students selected countries for their respective schools.  Click here for a link to a roster of countries selected for each school.

Students now have to:

  1. Research their countries.
  2. Identify and research issues that they think are significant to their countries and the global community in general.
  3. Write resolutions for their countries to present at the model U.N. (this is not a requirement, but since resolutions are the "fuel" of model UNs, we would like a healthy number submitted in advance.
You can access very valuable information on how our model U.N. works including the procedure for writing resolutions by accessing our on-line Participant Handbook.  You can submit resolutions to us by e-mailing them to info@civitas-stl.com.

Next Friday Night Flik: "The Candidate"

Idealistic young lawyer Bill McKay (Robert Redford), thoroughly involved with civil rights, legal aid and ecology, agrees to run for the U.S. Senate - not to win, he tells himself, but to bring vital issues before the voters.

He despises political deals and compromises, but when the possibility of victory overshadows what seemed like certain defeat, his integrity begins to weaken. A fascinating and dynamic character study showing all the inner conflicts of a decent man torn between his ambition and his conscience. It tells what it costs - emotionally, morally, financially - to run for public office, and conveys all the doubts, all the self deceptions and ultimately all the cynicism of a man who knows he has sold out for something he isn't sure he really wants.

The film will be a week from Friday, October 30, at the Civitas office (map) from 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM.  We will provide pizza and beverages.
