Key Model U.N. Information
We have more information below, but here are six short things to know:

  1. The Model U.N. is on Saturday, November 21, from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM (please arrive no later than 8:45 AM for registration).  It will be at Alberici Enterprises (map); the landmark being the wind turbine you see above and to the left.
  2. We have a prep session (along with discussion group) this Saturday, Nov. 14, at Crossroads (map) from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
  3. There will be a crisis simulation in the afternoon; something you won't be expecting.
  4. Extra Civitas points (this is new; check it out) will be given to anyone who (a) attends the model U.N. or (b) writes a workable resolution.
  5. Lunch (Pizza and beverages) is free to delegates; the whole experience is free.
  6. We have more information below about being a delegate including topic suggestions for resolutions.

Help us spread the word at your school.  Click here to download a PDF flyer.  If you would prefer for us to print flyers and either send them to your school or give them to students at our Friday & Saturday activities this week, we will.

Civitas Night at the Movies this Friday Evening

We have a tie in our voting for the movie this Friday evening between:

  1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Live the Bob -- a 1964 tragicomedy about an "eyeball-to-eyeball" nuclear confrontation.  Stars Peter Sellers (in three roles) -- trailer
  2. Broken Promises -- Documentary on limitations and failures of the United Nations over its first 60 years.  As much as we want to support the U.N., this perspective is important to see. --  trailer
Therefore, we have two options: (a) decide which film to see that evening based on the vote of the people who are in attendance, or (b) see both because they are a combined 158 minutes and we have 210 minutes.  The program will be at the Civitas office (map) from 6:00 PM - 9:30 PM.  We will provide pizza and beverages.

Special Note:
We now have a new 50" screen TV for our movies.

We had one other movie as an option; we hope to show it later in the year:

SuperSize Me -- 2004 Documentary on what happened to Morgan Spurlock when he ate all his meals at McDonald's for 30 straight days. -- trailer

More information on ....

Our High School Model U.N. is less than three weeks from now.  Just a reminder, it is on Saturday, November 21, from 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM at Alberici Enterprises (map).

There can be as few as one and as many as three delegates per country.  The results of the country draft are available by clicking here; if you do not have a country and want to participate, we would love to have you.  Just call us or e-mail us at info@civitas-stl.com.

All information is available in our Delegate Handbook accessible by clicking here.

You do net need to submit a resolution for your country, but we welcome them.  Again, then can be submitted to info@civitas-stl.com, preferably as MS Word documents.

In the Delegate Book, you can find:

  • Resolution template on Page 18
  • Sample resolution in Page 19
  • Checklist for resolution on Page 20

  • How To Tackle Funding Your Resolution on Page 22
  • Help! My Country Doesn't Have Any Problems on Page 23
  • Rules of Procedure on Page 36
  • Comparison of Dialogue and Debate on Page 39 (this is what makes Civitas' Model U.N. different from most others).
  • Highlights of U.N. Charter on Page 40
Resolution topics may include:
  • Women & Children's Rights
  • Coastal conflicts and environmental problems
  • "Loose nukes" (insecure nuclear weapons)
