We like frivolity to be a key ingredient to the way in which ActiveCitizen360 operates, but that's going to be difficult to do with our upcoming projects on Climate Change (with the Pulitzer Center) and the February conference on genocide.

Pulitzer "Heat of the Moment" Project Next Week
Beginning a week from today (Tuesday, Jan. 26) and running through Sat., Jan. 30, three terrific journalists from the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting will be visiting area schools to discuss climate change.  Everything that you need to know from the schedule to biographies of the journalists, to curricular resources for the program, to how to blog with the journalists is available by clicking here.  For the complete schedule including evening programs at Washington University at Nerinx Hall High School, click here.

Movie: "Darfur Now; " Friday, Jan. 29
How do you present the horror of a genocide without making it so upsetting that that it is not "watchable."  It seems as if the makers of Darfur Now succeeded in doing so.  The film showcases how six different people have each done their part in order to help stop the genocide in the region and bring humanitarian relief to the millions there who suffer.  It is on Friday, January 29, at the Civitas office (map).  We'll have pizza starting at 6:00 PM and begin the movie shortly thereafter.  Things will wrap up at 9:30 PM.
You can sign up for the pizza and movie by clicking here.

Genocide Conference Feb. 19-20

The question is "Why Does 'Never Again' Seem to Happen so Frequently Again?"  We're talking about genocide, and 'Never Again' was the prevalent mantra after The Holocaust.  But don't tell that to the people of Cambodia, the Balkans, Rwanda, and numerous other groups scattered around the globe.

ActiveCitizen360 students will gather to study past genocides and explore ways in which citizens can address current ones and hopefully prevent them in the future.  The conference is Feb. 19 - 20 at Spazio's / Comfort Inn in Maryland Heights (map).

There will be two prep sessions in advance; one on the afternoon of Sat., Jan. 30 and the other the morning of Sat., Feb. 13.  Both will be at Crossroads School (map).  Our Friday night movies between now and the conference will also focus on issues related to genocide.
