Survey Responses: Should teachers be evaluated on the basis of their students' test scores?
Last week's survey question was "Do you think that teachers ought to be evaluated on the basis of the test scores of their students?"
Seventy-one percent of the twenty-two respondents indicated that students test scores should probably or definitely not be used for teacher evaluation. Here are the specific responses:
| Response | % |
|---|
| Definitely No | 40% | | Probably No | 31% | | Not Sure | 0% | | Probably Yes | 18% | | Definitely No | 9% | Sixteen respondents offered thoughtful comments. Here is one:
"If teachers had control of what was happening at home--enough food, stable family, healthy interventions maybe. Tests are important but some really bright people do badly on tests."

Lively discussion and simulation last Saturday: Next: Movie on Sat. Afternoon, 04/17
Thanks to all the students who came to last Saturday's discussion and simulation. We focused on the health care bill that was under consideration at the time as well as whether students had more trust in the federal government or state government. We then engaged in a land use simulation as an introductory step towards this summer's Urban Go-Team.

Civitas Goes To Outstanding 'Indie' film on Sat., April 3
St. Louis is one of a handful of cities that will be showing the independent film, "The Most Dangerous Man in America." It is the story of Daniel Ellsberg who worked in the Pentagon at the time of the Vietnam war and against the law but in accordance with his conscience, released papers from the Defense Department. These papers revealed a dismal picture of how the war in Vietnam was going; quite different from what was being publicly said.
The movie is scheduled to be at the Tivoli Theater in the U. City Loop on the afternoon of Saturday, April 3. The exact time of the showing has not yet been released; we will let you know next week. But our plans are to meet at the Tivoli; see the movie; and then go to a "quiet restaurant" in the Loop to talk about the film. You can sign up by clicking here or on Facebook.
