Middle School Model U.N.s in Full Swing

Last Friday we had the first of seven middle school model United Nations sessions in the spring of 2010. Participating schools were Sperreng Middle (Lindbergh district), St. Gerard Majella, St. Mary Magdalen, St. Gabriel's, and St. Justin the Martyr.
Six resolutions were considered. The topics were (a) Education in Developing Countries,(b) Malnutrition in Developing Countries, (c) Child Labor, (d) Piracy off the coast of Somalia, (e) International Border Patrol, and (f) Clean Water. It was an excellent session with lots of enthusiasm and speakers' lists that were generally twenty-five countries long. You can access photos from the session by clicking here.
Our second session is this Wednesday, March 31, at the Creve Coeur Government Center; 300 No. New Ballas Road; 63141 (map) from 9:00 AM - Noon. Participating schools are Brittany Middle (University City), Hixson Middle (Webster Groves), Maplewood-Richmond Heights Middle, Queen of All Saints, and St. Francis Cabrini. Resolutions for the session are available by clicking here.

Civitas Goes To Outstanding 'Indie' film this Saturday, April 3

St. Louis is one of a handful of cities that will be showing the independent film, "The Most Dangerous Man in America." It is the story of Daniel Ellsberg who worked in the Pentagon at the time of the Vietnam war and against the law but in accordance with his conscience, released papers from the Defense Department. These papers revealed a dismal picture of how the war in Vietnam was going; quite different from what was being publicly said.
The movie has been moved to the Landmark Frontenace Theatre near Lindbergh and Clayton Roads (map). We will be going to the 1:15 PM showing and then going out to eat after the movie so that we have time to discuss the film. So here are your options:
- You can meet us at the Frontenac at 12:45 PM so that we have time to get tickets to sit together. You can be picked up at 4:00 PM following the movie and food.
- You can meet us at Crossroads (map) at 12:00 PM and we will drive you to the theater. If you are going to do this, please let us know in advance; we will not have a car there unless we know that someone will want a ride from Crossroads. We will have you back to Crossroads by 4:30 PM.
