Middle School Model U.N.s Continue
Last Wednesday we had the second of seven middle school model United Nations sessions in the spring of 2010. Participating schools were Brittany Woods Middle School (U. City), Hixson Middle School (Webster Groves), Maplewood-Richmond Heights MiddleSchool, Queen of All Saints School, and St. Francis Cabrini School.
Six resolutions were considered. The topics were (a) Malaria in Zambia, (b) Slaves in Sudan, (c) Trafficking of Women, (d) Childhood Illiteracy, (e) Refugees, and (f) Impure Drinking Water. It was an excellent session with lots of enthusiasm and speakers' lists that were generally twenty countries long. You can access photos from the session by clicking here.
Our third session is on Thursday, April 29, at the Creve Coeur Government Center; 300 No. New Ballas Road; 63141 (map) from 9:00 AM - Noon. Participating schools will be Lift for Life Academy, North Kirkwood Middle School, Ritenour Middle School, and Solomon Schecter School.

H.S. Polling in Soulard Scheduled for Sat., April 17
Planning outdoor spring activities is always difficult, but in our three remaining Saturday sessions (April 17, May 1, and May 8), we will have set plans for field trips. If we're hit with bad weather, we'll have alternative indoor activities at Crossroads (map).
On Saturday, April 17, we are planning to go to Soulard Market and possibly Tower Grove Park to query people on their views about St. Louis. It's a wonderful time to meet people, visit vibrant areas in our community, and get the pulse of what people are thinking.
We'll meet at Crossroads at 9:00 AM and the activitity will conclude at Noon. You can sign up at the Civitas site by clicking here or on Facebook by clicking here.

Civitas Students Go To "Most Dangerous Man in America"
Last Saturday, students from Civitas went to see the independent film, "The Most Dangerous Man in America." It is sbout Daniel Ellsberg who worked in the Pentagon at the time of the Vietnam war. Acting against the law but in accordance with his conscience, he released top secret papers from the Defense Department. These papers revealed a dismal picture of how the war in Vietnam was going; quite different from what was being publicly said.
Independent films always operate on tight budgets and their financial success often depends on spreading the word through word-of-mouth. We think that this is an outstanding film, and it is scheduled to be in St. Louis only through Thursday. However that could change if attendance is as good as it was over the weekend. "The Most Dangerous Man in America" is showing at the Landmark Frontenace Theatre near Lindbergh and Clayton Roads (map).
