ActiveCitizen360 Urban Go-Team

Pictured above is a view of Eads Bridge, taken behind the levee wall in East St. Louis. On Tuesday of Go-Team, we'll be traversing the bridge by foot and then learning about flood control along the Mississippi from Washington University hydrologist Dr. Robert Criss. Of course, if the water level is down, we'll trade in this field trip for a sojourn to the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers with Dr. Criss.
Either event is one of many interesting locales that we will visit in the 2010 Civitas Urban Go-Team next week. A dozen students will explore our community, studying the theme: St. Louis: What Works and What Doesn't Work. Among our activities will be a "bird's-eye" view of the city with journalist Alvin Reid from the top of the Metropolitan Life Building and a meeting with University City mayor Shelly Welsch about her community's opportunities and challenges. We'll also meet with John Chasnoff of the American Civil Liberties Union about how police protect citizens and citizens are protected from police abuse. Activist Jamala Rogers will give us a tour of the grounds of the former Pruitt-Igoe and much more (see background video below). You can access the schedule for the week by clicking here.
