ActiveCitizen360 Urban Go-Team
Begins with "Bird's Eye View" of St. Louis

Alvin Reid of the Globe-Democrat.com and Donnybrook points out landmarks on the near north side of St. Louis from the 40th Floor of the Met Life Building (thanks to Kemoll's Restaurant for being host to our "Bird's Eye View.")

The first day of the 2010 ActiveCitizen360 Urban Go-Team was most successful, in large part to journalist Alvin Reid who provided a most engaging narrative as students took a "Bird's Eye View" of St. Louis from the top of the Met Life Building.  Students had a host of questions and Mr. Reid graciously answered all of them.

Today is as unsettled as the weather.  We hope to go with Washington University hydrologist Dr. Robert Criss to see the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, but that's doubtful since the park has been closed since May 17 due to high water.  If not, we'll examine flood issues along the Mississippi by walking across Eads Bridge with Dr. Criss.  If it rains heavily this morning, we'll go with 'Plan C.'

This afternoon we'll be meeting with John Chasnoff of the American Civil Liberties Union to learn about how police protect citizens and citizens are protected from police misconduct.

On Wednesday we'll tour Old North St. Louis with Matt Fernandez; eat at Crown Candy, and then visit the old Pruitt-Igoe site with Jamala Rogers.

Thursday we'll be back downtown at City Garden, then eat lunch at Cafe Osage, and then have a tour of Renaissance Place with officials from McCormack-Baron-Salazar.

Friday we'll meet with University City Mayor Shelly Welsch to discuss her city's opportunities and challenges.  Then we'll have a scavenger hunt in the U. City Loop and finally return to the Civitas office for a program wrap-up.
