If the world is a stage and the people are actors, then center stage is the United Nations in New York.  Delegates come to the United Nations from 191 sovereign countries.  Each country has its own history, its own resources, its own culture, and its own way of interacting with other nations.  In the Civitas United Nations, high school students take on the roles of representing these countries.  Each student is mandated to protect the interests of his or her country and still try to pursue universal global interests.  Compromise is the goal but competition is the element of human nature that stands in the way of peace and cooperation.  Creativity and reason are the tools that students use to try to fashion solutions that do justice for both the countries that they are representing and the rest of humanity.
