An ideal project for Civitas is one
that stimulates the mind and has potential to help the less fortunate
people in our society. The notion of alternate currency to
traditional "greenbacks" is not new, but it is gaining a revival in the
21st century as people look for ways to protect individual workers and
consumers from the erratic behavior of a global economy in which so much
power is in the hands of a relatively few corporations and governments.
Exciting programs are operating successfully in Ithaca, NY, Toronto,
Ontario and elsewhere. Civitas has gathered a group of interested
adults and adolescents in St. Louis to study the concept of community
currency and consider its viability in St. Louis. If you are
