Just a reminder that we have another model UN discussion group this Saturday, October 18, at Crossroads from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

Possible topics for conversation include:

• The success in reversing the epidemic of AIDS in Kenya. We have an ABC "Nightline" video on this.
  
• The global treaty on land mines – and the United States’ refusal to sign it. A look at Jody Williams from Putney, VT who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to ban land mines.
  
• This Fall marks the 50-year anniversary of two seemingly unrelated events:
  

• India’s independence from Great Britain. India then became (and still is) the world’s largest "democracy".
  

  Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier in the X-1 rocket plane. This further opened the door to the space race.
  

• How have democracy and technology fared over the past 50 years?

Naturally, we can also go with any other topic you might like – from the deeply intellectual to the thoroughly mundane.
