Regarding Model United Nations of the University of Chicago
19 December 2000
Dear MUNUC
Students
,
As you
know, our preparation meeting for MUNUC
on Saturday, December 16, 2000 had to be postponed because of inclement and
threatening weather. However, we
did have eight students who came in and worked on their position papers.
We have
rescheduled our preparation meeting for January 13, 2001.
This was the original date for our third and final prep session.
We have decided that we can accomplish most everything that we wanted to
do in our second and third prep sessions by having one meeting that extends from
9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon. Thus,
that’s what we’ll do on January 13 so that we can avoid having another
meeting later on.[1]
By
the time you get this letter (hopefully on Wednesday, Dec. 20), the Dec. 19
deadline for position papers to be submitted to MUNUC
will have passed. We will have sent
in all the position papers that we have by 6:00 PM Tuesday in order that they
are postmarked on the proper date. However,
MUNUC
generally is willing to accept position papers that come in by the end of their
winter break (Jan. 7, 2001 this year). Thus,
if you have not yet written and submitted your position paper, and if you
really want to be one of the students selected to be a MUNUC
delegate, please do so now!
We
have included several important enclosures with this mailing:
1.
General
Information for MUNUC
2001 gives you
the information that you need on our transportation to and from Chicago as well
as on our accommodations at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel.
Please note that the train leaves St. Louis an hour later this year, so
you will not need to be at the station (AmShak) until 9:00 AM on Thursday, Feb.
8.
2.
Our
‘PERMISSION and “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY” FORM.’
It is essential that one of your parents our guardians signs this form.
Please note that two signatures are required; one on page 1 and the other
on page 3. It is important that you provide us with all essential
information regarding your health. This
form can be mailed into Civitas by January 12, 2001 or brought to the meeting at
Crossroads on Saturday, January 13, 2001.
3.
As we mentioned previously, we
asked MUNUC
about getting a third country. This
is not possible, however we can take and additional one or two students to serve
on the European Union. We
have included an application form to serve on that committee.
You can ignore the October 25 deadline stated on the application.
However, we would recommend sending it in to MUNUC
(the address is on the application form) as soon as possible.
If you intend on applying for the E.U., we suggest that you do the
following:
a.
Go to the MUNUC web site at www.munuc.org
b. Click on
“Background Papers.”
c. In the
area under “Regional Committees,” click on European Union.
If
you do submit an application, please notify us by E-Mailing us a [email protected]
or [email protected].
4.
Please remember that Gretchen has offered to give individual help any and
all students in preparing for MUNUC.
You can best contact Gretchen by E-Mailing her at [email protected].
She will be available to work with students following the first of the
year.
5.
Finally, regarding the cost of the trip, here’s the gig: For those paying full fare, the cost is $350.
However, you only need to pay $290 into Civitas.
The other $60 is for you to keep and spend on food, etc. while in
Chicago. Half of the payment ($145
for those paying full fare) is due at the January 13 meeting and the
other half is due at Civitas by January 31, 2001.
If you are receiving financial assistance from us, simply deduct the $60
from the total amount you are going to pay, and then divide your balance in half
for the payments on Jan. 13 and Jan. 31.
Thanks
for everything! If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!
