for High School Teachers & Students

                                                                                                              6 October 2000

Dear Teachers and Students,

We want to thank all the schools that sent representatives to the 2000-2001 Gateway Model United Nations country draft on September 30.  Congratulations to C.B.C., Collinsville, Cor Jesu, DeSmet, Gateway, Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, Lindbergh, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, McCluer North, Nerinx Hall, Notre Dame, Parkway North, Riverview Gardens, Rosati-Kain, Soldan International Studies, St. Elizabeth’s, St. Louis University High, Thomas Jefferson, and University City High Schools for showing up and drafting a total of 89 countries.

There are exactly 100 nations remaining for the schools that were not present to select from.  However, the “penalty” to those schools that were not being present at the draft is that they will not be able to have a representative on the Security Council.  We have included with this mailing a list of all the 189 countries and the schools that have already selected some of them.  The countries and schools in bold print are Security Council countries.

We want to let teachers and students from the schools that were not at the country draft that we would very much like to have them participate in our program this year.  Simply check out the country list and inform us of which of the remaining countries you would like to represent.  You can E-Mail us at [email protected] or [email protected], or you can call us at (314) 367-6480, you can fax us at (314) 367-7742, or you can even use snail mail (the U.S. Postal Service).

Also included with this mailing is a blank form to register delegates.  Completing this neatly is of enormous benefit to us and you.  It allows the students from your schools to be listed in our Delegate Handbook and helps students contact one another to collectively work on resolutions, amendments, etc.  You also have the option of registering electronically on our web site at www.civitas-stl.com.  Registering electronically is very helpful to us because everything is neat and it can be imported into our database.

For those of you going to the Alabama Model United Nations in Tuscaloosa, AL, October 18 – 21, we will send out additional information the week of October 9.  Payments will be due at our meeting on Saturday, October 14.

The Saturday, October 14 meeting will also be a discussion group.  Everyone’s invited!

Thanks for everything and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us!

Sincerely yours,

Arthur H. Lieber & Gretchen Haupt
