18 January 2001

 Dear Teachers & Students,

From all of us at Civitas and the St. Louis Chapter of the United Nations Association, we hope that you had a wonderful holiday season.  January and February are clearly two months that need all the additional excitement that we can provide.  Since our December date for the Gateway Model United Nations was snowed out, we can try to enliven January with the rescheduled M.U.N. session.  The conference is actually on Friday, January 26, 2001.  We hope that it is a source of “fun education” for everyone involved.

As we previously stated, we are expecting close to 300 students from nearly 25 schools.  The session will be at Forest Park Community College (map).  It will begin at 9:00 AM and be over at 2:30 PM.  We suggest that delegations arrive at 8:30 AM so that registration can run smoothly.

Prior to the December, we had a terrific response to our request for resolutions.  We have nearly 60 resolutions for the three committees of the General Assembly (Political & Security, Economic & Social, and Human Rights).  Presently, we are lacking in Security Council resolutions, but we have contacted as many S.C. delegates as we know about writing new resolutions.  If you can help us with this, please do!  New resolutions can be sent to us as late as Tuesday, January 23, 2001.

In the meantime, we have enclosed for you another copy of the resolution index.  We would appreciate it if teachers would make copies of them for all participating students.

The actual resolutions are available from our web site at www.civitas-stl.com.  They can even be saved in Microsoft Word format.

Once again, in the event of inclement weather on January 26, we will postpone our session.  If the weather is questionable or bad, there will be an announcement on KMOX Radio (1120 on your AM dial).  We’ll also post the information on our web site and make as many phone calls as we can.  Thanks for everything.
