Information for Saturday, November 17, 2001 Model United Nations Session

The first Gateway Model United Nations session of the year is going to be on Saturday, November 17, 2001 from 9:00 AM – Noon.  It will be held the Student Center at Forest Park Community College (map).

This year’s session will be different because we will have only one large committee (the General Assembly) and five small committees.  The arrangement is as follows:

The reason for the change is to provide more small committees where individual students can have more of an opportunity to participate.

The General Assembly can have one representative from each of the 189 countries that are members.  Right now, we have less than 60 countries selected.

The Security Council will have the fifteen members that are presently on the Council as well as a few additional countries so that each of our participating high schools can be represented on the Council.

The four new committees are limited to the number of countries indicated by the number in parentheses to the right of the committee name:

Membership on these committees is based on first-come, first-serve basis.  There are still slots available on all committees.  However, they are filling quickly.  In order to ensure that your country will be able to sit on the committees that you wish, please complete the delegate sign-up form that is linked from our web site at www.civitas-stl.com.   If you do not want to complete all the information for all students from your country or school, then simply E-Mail us at [email protected] or [email protected] and let us know what committees you want for your country.

Resolutions for the committees are due by Friday, November 9.  Within a few days, we will be posting more information about each of the committees.
