[1]  Simple determination of who wants to go, how much it will cost, etc.

[2] The discussion group will end at 11:00 AM; the ALMUN preparation will continue until Noon.

[3]  Afternoon session because of ACT test in the morning.

[4] This session will be cancelled if the October 5 workshop occurs.

[5]  Late afternoon session because of SAT test in the morning.  Following the discussion group, there will be an optional dinner and movie.


 [AL1] Workshop in the morning (9:00 AM – 11:30 AM)on:

 

1.        What is the U.N.

2.        What is a Model U.N.

3.        What vital issues face the world and the U.N.

4.        Learning about funding formulae.

5.        On-line course, etc.

 

Afternoon work on:

 

1.        Researching topics.

2.        Researching countries.

3.        Break into groups to work on topics for each of the G.A. committees and the Security Council.

 

 [AL2] This will be a workshop for 8th grade students in which we:

 

1.        Give an overview of the United Nations.

2.        Give an overview of a Model United Nations.

3.        Give an overview of human rights and security issues.

4.        Learning about funding formulae.

5.        Learn about outline for writing resolutions.

 

Resolution writing can then begin earlier for 8th grade students and teachers and they can be E-Mailed back and forth between schools and Civitas.  We can even have an on-line Model U.N. during the winter and then have special resolutions for our sessions in the Spring.
