Resolution HR-03

Re.: Peace in Bosnia

Submitted to: Human Rights Committee

Submitted by: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Date: November 6, 1996

Noting with deep concern the practices of ethnic cleansing followed by the Bosnia Serbs including

a -- The incarcerating of Bosnian Muslims in concentration camps.

b -- The raping of thousands of Muslim women by Serbian soldiers.

c -- The killing of more than 100,000 civilians and students.

Taking into consideration that the UN's attempt to form a peace plan in January of 1993 by dividing territories in Bosnia-Herzegovina and distributing them evenly between the Muslims, Serbs, and Croats failed to have a substantial impact, and

Fully aware that the attempts by the UN to ban heavy-weapons created more hostility than already present and caused many UN peacekeeping troops to be taken hostage by angered Serbian troops.

Be It Hereby Resolved That:

  1. A UN committee be formed to help establish a united, compromising government in Bosnia-Herzegovina comprised of Muslims, Serbs, and Croats alike.
  2. The UN request that all nations prohibit the importation of heavy-weapons into Bosnia-Herzegovina.
  3. The UN further request that the voting privileges on future issues involving Bosnia and Herzegovina be suspended from any nation that insists on selling heavy-weapons to Muslim, Serbian, and Croatian rebels.
  4. The UN urge an incentive system be established to encourage these Muslim, Serbian, and Croatian rebels to turn in their heavy-weapons to UN peace-keeping troops.
  5. The UN continue to help in this struggle for freedom and peace.

Re.: War in Zaire

Submitted to: Human Rights Committee

Understanding that the fighting that is occurring currently with the Hutus and Tutsis of Zaire could cause such encroachments on the human rights of the residents of Zaire, and

Be It Hereby Resolved That:

  1. A conference be organized to direct the placement of UN troops in Zaire.
  2. All nations consider mobilizing their troops to suppress the war.

Resolution HR-07

Re.: Murder of Children in the People's Republic of China

Submitted to: Human Rights Committee

Submitted by: Lebanon

Date: November 6, 1996

Deploring that parents have children without government consent face punishments of heavy fines, property confiscation, and physical beatings, and

Grieved that "unauthorized" children are aborted, given a lethal injection of iodine or alcohol if they are born, or buried or thrown into trash bins while still alive, and

Conscious that Chinese orphanages are merely institutions designed to eliminate unwanted or surplus children by means of starvation and simply neglecting to care for them, and

Noting with grave concern that doctors in Chinese hospitals work under strict orders by authorities to kill all babies born without government permission, and

Expressing deep concern that Chinese women pregnant after having one or two children already are subjected to abortions against their will, and

Bearing in mind that the population of the People's Republic of China is the largest in the world with over 1.2 billion people, but

Alarmed that other means of population control are not being sought out and used, and

wishing that alternative methods of population control would be used,

Be It Hereby Resolved that the General Assembly:

  1. Reaffirms its belief that forced abortions and murdering innocent children is wrong.
  2. Demand that the People's Republic of China and other countries with similar practices change their policies.
  3. Approve of nations that do not force women to undergo abortions unwillingly and of nations that do not kill their children.
  4. Welcome any suggestions regarding non-violent, humane ways of combating overpopulation.
