What are some of your expectations for the week?
I’m looking forward to getting to know some of the elected officials that will be coming in for our panel discussion on Tuesday. It will be interesting to learn why they decided to run, what it’s like being in office, how they organized their campaign (fundraising, staff, etc.), and what their hopes are for holding office. So hopefully I’ll have a better understanding their thought processes
What is the biggest question you have about voting, elections, and campaigns?
How do they decide where to put the polling places?
Why did you decide to join Go-Team (this is where your admissions essay would come in handy)
I did Go-Team back in 2007, and have been really into the idea of experiential, place-based learning ever since.
How’d you hear about Civitas?
I learned about the program in 2004, during my freshman year of high school. I think Arthur and Bobbi were at our activities fair. I’ve been excited about the programs ever since.
Have you ever done Go-Team before? If so, what was your experience?
Yes! In 2007, we explored Urban economic development in North St. Louis. Through that experience, I learned about the politics and social impact of economic development, eminent domain, etc. I also got to meet one of our Tuesday panelists, Councilman Reginald Finney. Speaking with him and learning about his neighborhood (Hadley Township in Richmond Heights) really got me interested in urban issues, and has played a huge role in how I think about urban life/policy.
A fun fact about yourself/anything else you’d want to include
I really like pugs!
