Wednesday Daily Wrap Up

Today was a long day, but there were a ton of great speakers and activities to blog about. Here are a few prompts, but as always you can write about whatever interests you.

  • We started the day at the 911 dispatch center. Was there anything you heard/saw there that interested you? How did you feel about Bob Heimberger, the speaker? As a former cop, he had some interesting ideas about crime & the role of police. Did you agree with any of them?
  • Once again, trust was mentioned in the morning when Bob was talking about how people felt about 911 operators knowing their location. Have you noticed any other common threads or recurring themes this week?
  • The panel on protesting was intense. What were your thoughts on Jamala, Rasheen, and Christian? How did meeting with the protestors and listening to their ideas differ from meeting with the cops/judges from earlier this week?
  • Jamala had an interesting perspective on rioters. (And she added the phrase uprising to this week’s lexicon.) Jamala writes for the St. Louis American, but also voiced a distrust of the media. How much of a roles does the media (and the words we use) have in influencing people concerning protests? Does media also influence (positively or negatively) the justice system?
  • While street polling, did you have any interesting conversations/results? What did you think of the activity?
  • How was University City municipality different from yesterday’s court sessions?
  • We had a chance to talk to the judge and the prosecutor in University City. Did they say anything that interested you?
  • What other questions or follow up thoughts do you have from any part of today?
