Spring 2016 Active Citizen Project - CIVITAS-STL

Civ-MCCEIn November, 2015, Civitas students and teachers learned a great deal about the entanglement of money and politics from our visitors from OpenSecrets.org. In April, 2016, Civitas is turning to an organization that has had genuine success in minimizing the role of big money in politics. The group is Maine Citizens for Clean Elections and this past November they secured another victory in strengthening the law in Maine.

MCCE Executive Director Andrew Bossie and board member Alison Smith will be coming to St. Louis from Thursday, April 21 through Saturday, April 23. On Thursday and Friday, they will be making classroom visits and in a few cases all-school assemblies. On Saturday morning, April 24, Civitas will have an Issues Roundtable at the Drury Inn for those students and teachers who are most interested in following up to learn more and perhaps brainstorm a local action plan. We will also invite some of our state and federal representatives to learn and participate.
