Re:                              Piracy

Submitted to:             General Assembly

Submitted by:            Somalia

Date:                           May 5, 2009

Establishing in the PREAMBLE the principles that apply in the resolution:

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 4 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.”, and

Whereas Article 5 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”, and

Alarmed that now other Somalians want to join the piracy team, and

Understanding that piracy is a very dangerous job, but involves much money, and

Seeking help to stop pirates from asking for ransoms and holding innocent ships hostage, and

Observing that many Pirates have died from bad weather, unhealthy food and sinking ships, and

Confident that when pirates are caught and put into jail, that piracy will die down by many numbers,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1.      The General Assembly start a program, Stopping the Pirates (STP) which goal is to reduce the amount of Pirates around the shores.

2.      Money should be captured from current pirates and given to the rightful owners.

3.      Have “Watch Ships” placed in different areas of the waters, so that if one ship is caught and held captive, the “Watch Ships” will be able to call in for help and or help the ship themselves. The “Watch Ships” will be staffed by the US military.

4.      The General Assembly start a program that helps teach the uneducated business skills in Somalia. Open more businesses and build schools so that the people will be educated. Then the future will hold less piracy, and more main businesses.

5.      The UN will pay money for the schools, buildings, and businesses by raising the dues for the Top 10 wealthiest countries. The dues will be raised by $1000.

6.      All the left over money from the piracy trade will be given to the top 10 poorest countries.

Re:                              Hunger, Debt, & Deforestation in Albania

Submitted to:             General Assembly

Submitted by:            Albania

Date:                           May 5, 2009

Establishing in the PREAMBLE the principles that apply in the resolution:

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Alarmed that over one half of the population in Albania is in debt and they are destroying the earth to build factories to try and get out of debt, and

Understanding that the citizens of Albania would destroy the earth to build factories and they are starving and on top of that over half the population is in debt, and

Shocked that the citizens of Albania are using the method of deforestation in order to build factories on their property, to get over half the population out of debt and to pay for food so they won’t starve, and

Encouraged that if the people of Albania will destroy the factories, and farm in its place, they can control their hunger and sell their products to others countries to get out of debt,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1.      The General Assembly start a program called Saving Albania One Step at a Time (SAOST), the goal of which is to completely diminish deforestation, hunger and debt of Albania in the next 15 years.

2.      SAOST will raise taxes by 1% in the 3 richest countries in Europe (Luxembourg, Norway, Iceland) (these countries are also the 1st, 2nd and 4th richest countries in the world). This money will go towards supplying the citizens of Albania with planting supplies.

3.      These planting supplies will help the citizens in Albania to plant crops to grow.

4.      These crops will not only be eaten by the citizens of Albania but will also be sold to other countries to help get Albania put of debt.

5.      This program will go on for 15 years. After the first 5 years SAOAT will send a progress report to the General Assembly reporting the successes and shortcomings thus in the program.

6.      If the program is successful after 15 years, The General Assembly may choose a new country to renew the program after the 15 years is up.

Re:                              Malaria in Africa

Submitted to:             General Assembly

Submitted by:            Guinea-Bissau

Date:                           May 5, 2009

Establishing in the PREAMBLE the principles that apply in the resolution:

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Deeply concerned that in 2004, 880,000 people died of malaria.  There were 2.410 deaths per day, and

Recognizing that only 10% of the world’s population had malaria, and now 40% is at risk, and

Observing that countries at high risk of Malaria are also affected economically, and

Confident that Malaria is both treatable and curable,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

 1.      The General Assembly will commission a program called Stop Malaria in African Countries (S.M.A.C.), the goal of which is to reduce the spread of malaria by 15% in the next ten years.

2.      S.M.A.C. will commission a website, which will run advertisements for sponsors. Playing a game will donate 5 cents, and clicking on the ‘Donate’ button will donate 2 cents.  The goal would be to raise 10,000,000 dollars to treat 1,000,000 with bug nets and the vaccine.  In addition, we will raise the dues of the top ten countries by 15%.

3.      The money raised will be used to buy bug nets ($7 each) and doses of pyronaridine ($3 each).  It would cost 10 to give each person both a bug net and a dose of medicine, which could be generated through 200 games or 500 clicks of the donate button.

4.      Items will be distributed by ten S.M.A.C. trucks in the five most affected countries, which are Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Kenya.  (It would cost $50,000 to ship the trailers there and $3,072 for gas.)  The program will be reviewed after five years.

5.      If the program is still doing well after 5 years, we will give the program to five different countries.

1.      The General Assembly works with the Highland Water Project to build wells close to densely populated areas, delivering water purification systems to make sure there is clean drinking water, and expanding the dams in Southern Africa so that there is a larger amount of water.

2.      The General Assembly establishes the CWFLI (Clean Water for Lesotho Initiative), a non-profit organization based in Europe that raises funds to distribute clean drinking water to the population of Lesotho. The multiple offices would have fund raisers that the individual offices would plan.

3.      If this organization becomes successful its methods will be implemented throughout greater Africa.
