Resolution GA May 2-01

Re.:   Saving Endangered Species

Submitted to:  General Assembly

Submitted by: Sweden

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 17, section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.”, and

Alarmed by the fact that there are 22 different species of animals on Sweden’s endangered list, and

Shocked that radiation in animals, such as reindeer and moose, can be up to 40,000 Bq/kg (becquerels per kilogram), which is 4 times the new legal limit of radiation in an edible animal (which was increased from 1,500 Bq/kg over the past 5 years), and

Dismayed that as many as 150 unique types of organisms are estimated to go extinct every day (Lamont 1995), and

Appalled that loss of species may therefore lead to fewer utilized niches, stronger competition, and lower process rates thus affecting ecosystem functioning negatively,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. This program will focus mainly on creating safe places for endangered species to stay and raise the population of said animal. We will be sending a group of people to create this haven. The process will consist of scouting out a safe area, laying down a perimeter, and then stocking the areas with the remaining specimens of the endangered species. The group creating the areas will be handpicked by the leaders of this foundation through interviews. Our safe area will consist of:

a. Plants that are relevant to the growing situation and the animals.

b. Suitable Drinking Water

c. Soil/fertilizer suitable for the edible plants those animals need.

d. Suitable amounts of animals for breeding.

Our staff:

-30 people who know how to set up the area from different countries who have set up similar safe havens and are going to train local residents on how to sustain it.

-20 Translators

2. Our staff will be responsible for going to Sweden. They will also be responsible for finding land in the country that is good enough to create a safe haven for endangered species. This country will receive 2 or more designated animal safe havens.

3. The safe havens will be constructed throughout the country where training will begin in the area of sustaining the said havens.  After that our staff will leave to go set up the next area. Havens will be in a space of at least three square acres.  Supervisors from the program will stay to oversee caretaking of the area is done correctly for two years.

4. After two years of monitoring the safe havens, the executives will then decide if the program is working. If the program doesn’t work then it will be discontinued. If the program succeeds then the areas will be continued to be funded and will be expanded to other countries with a great number of endangered animals such as: China, Australia, India, and Ecuador.

5. This program will be funded by the government Qatar. We know that Qatar's government has the money to fund this program because as of 2013 they are one of the 15 richest countries in the world.

Re.:   Drugs

Submitted to:  General Assembly

Submitted by: Colombia

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 28, of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone is entitled to a social and international order in which the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration can be fully realized.”, and

Recognizing that the rebels of the Colombia Civil War (FARC) are funded by selling their drugs, and

Recalling that drugs cause many problems to society, like failure in the workplace/school, financial problems, car accidents, issues at home, and many more, and

Fully aware that Colombia is the world’s largest cocaine producer, producing 80% of the world’s supply, and 90% of the illegal cocaine in the United States, and

Emphasizing that the growing of more drugs causes the Amazon Rainforest to be cut down to make more plantations, endangering the homes and lives of native people who live there, and

Keeping in mind that injecting drugs spread HIV/AIDs from the needles. Out of 132 countries reporting drug abuse, 93 of them have high rates of HIV/AIDs,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. The United Nations will start a program called Coke Crackers (CC) to help stop illegal drug trade in Colombia.

2. As a first step, CC will go in Colombia and fund the coca fields. The fields will be ridded of mines once they are found. The plants will be tested to be sure it is coca.
3. After they are located we will send a plane to spray them down with a plant poison.

4. This program will last for 5 years. It will cost $1,483,000 USD. To raise the money the UN will raise the dues on the 10 nations that pay the highest dues by 0.1%.

5. We will use $80,000 for 4 police dogs, $1,125,000 for 15 police officers for 5 years, and $278,000 for 2 airplanes to spray cocaine farms. The rest of the money will be used for any extra things we might need.

6. The United Nations is responsible for this program. If it is affective enough and 5 fields per year are effectively sprayed, the program will go on for 2 more years and will expand to Afghanistan (heroin) and Paraguay (marijuana).

Resolution GA May 2-03

Re.:   Earthquake Relief in Iran

Submitted to:  General Assembly

Submitted by: Iran

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Appalled that the earthquake killed at least 37 people and 850 more injured in the country’s southwest, and

Shocked that the earthquake, measured up to a magnitude of 6.3, the earthquakes were felt as far away as Qatar and Bahrain, and

Dismayed that Iran is in proximity to a major fault line, causing an extreme vulnerability to seismic activity, and

Realizing around 10,000 people live in the affected areas, which is over 50 villages,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. The United Nations will create an organization called GDRF (Global Disaster Relief Fund) which will focus in Iran specifically but eventually move to countries that need relief in the case of natural disasters.

2. GDRF in partnership with current beneficiary programs such as Red Cross will benefit the nation by giving support and assistance in countries in dire need of aid during a natural disaster i.e. an earthquake.

3. GDRF will train volunteers to work in a relief center that will be located throughout affected areas to provide first aid. It will also raise money to rebuild and replenish these areas.

4. To fund the initial cost of GDRF we ask the UN to raise dues on the 10 nations that pay the highest amount in dues by 0.5%.

5. Global Disaster Relief Fund will request raises in dues for a year to supply a jump start to the relief in Iran. After this time, GDRF will run on it’s donations.

If Global Disaster Relief Fund assists the welfare at least 30% of the population affected and rebuilds at least 40% of the affected area, GDRF will spread to other nations in need of aid during a natural disaster

Resolution GA May 2-04

Re.:   Kenyan Malaria Prevention

Submitted to:  General Assembly

Submitted by: Kenya

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Horrified that Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Kenya and it kills an estimated 34,000 children under five in Kenya every year, and

Realizing that 25 million out of a population of 34 million Kenyans are at risk of malaria, and

Recognizing that 80% of Kenyans are living in rural areas versus an urban city, and

Keeping in Mind that $10 can buy a malaria net that can protect a person for 3-5 years, and

Surprised that an estimated 170 million working days are lost to malaria each year in Kenya,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. The UN will create the MSKEETER Squad (Malaria Safety in Kenya; Eradication, Education, Teaching Effective Remedies), a team who will be responsible for preventing and treating malaria cases in Kenya. The MSKEETER Squad will team up with Project Mosquito Net, a NGO (Non-Governmental Organization). To fund said program, the UN will raise the dues on the 10 wealthiest countries, supplying the MSKEETER Squad with $1,909,781. This is enough to fund the busses (around $1,050,000), the kits that we will distribute (around $52,500), the nets in the kits (around $35,000), as well as money for insecticides in the kits, fuel for the Skeeter Mobiles, staffing, and any unexpected expenses.

2. Thirty-five busses will travel around Kenya, visiting the around thirty-five million people living in rural communities that don’t have easy access to medical facilities. Each minivan, known as a Skeeter Mobile, will be equipped with kits specialized with materials to prevent malaria. Each kit will consist of an anti-malaria insect net and insect repellant. There will be 100 kits in each Skeeter Mobile, as well as all the supplies necessary to inoculate and treat the people that need treatment/protection against malaria.

3. Each Skeeter Mobile will consist of 3 medical professionals and one educator. The doctors will treat and inoculate those who they encounter in the rural areas they stop in; the educators will inform the people about how to prevent malaria.

4. This program will last for 2 years. If by the end of this time the reported cases of malaria have decreased by 10%, then the program will continue in Kenya and potentially expand to Uganda. In the future the program will also spread to other countries that also have a high malaria diagnoses rate.

Resolution GA May 2-05

Submitted by: Burma (Myanmar)

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 4 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.”, and

Whereas Article 5 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”, and

Whereas Article 9 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention, or exile.”, and

Whereas Article 12 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to protection of the law against such interference and attacks.”, and

Whereas Article 20 section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.”, and

Whereas today, child soldiers are fighting in at least 14 countries, and

Noting that Myanmar’s government agreed in June 2012 to plan with the United Nations to wend the use of child soldier, and

Concerned that a London based group said that the army, border troops and rebel groups still use child soldiers, with the army facing internal pressure to increase its ranks and successful recruiters receiving bonuses or early leave, and

Alarmed that in the countries surrounding Burma, children are treated poorly. In Laos there is a lot of child abuse and neglect, some traditions include abusive discipline for the children. In some ethnic groups children are forced to marry when they are only 13 or 14. Laos is also known for its human trafficking to Thailand another nearby country, and

Whereas a recent report by Child Soldiers International; documented that child soldiers were being used by the Burmese Army (Tatmadaw) and two opposing armies, The Karen Nation Union (KNU) and the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA).

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. Put political pressure on Burma to release the child soldiers from the army.

2. Send people to help the already released child soldiers.

3. Name: Botswana-Burma Anti Child Soldiers Act (BBACSA)

4. Sponsors: United Nations, Fund raisers.

5. How we are going to raise money: PBS Telethon and commercials.

Re.:   Deforestation in South America

Submitted to:  General Assembly

Submitted by: Brazil

Date:   May 2, 2013

Whereas Article 17, section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.”, and

Appalled that there is an estimated 20% of the tropical rainforest has been cut down or burned and 1 1/2 acres are lost every second, and

Shocked that an estimated 137 plant, animal, and insect species are lost every day due to the deforestation of the rainforest, and

Dismayed that logging companies are cutting down the chance at finding possible drugs to treat infections, cancer, and AIDS that could be found in the world’s rainforests, and

Realizing that we will lose approximately half of our oxygen if the Amazon as well as all rainforests continue to be cut down, and

Realizing that 50,000,000 tribal people live in the world’s rainforests and will be found without a home if the rainforest were to be cut down,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

1. The United Nations will begin a program called Save the World’s Rainforests (SWR) which will primarily focus in Brazil, Indonesia, Colombia, and Mexico. (Four nations with over 6,500 kilometers cut annually)

2. SWR will work with other NGOs who focus on the improvement of rainforest and nature as well as plant-based research for finding drugs to treat infections, cancer, AIDS, etc.

3. To create SWR, we request that the UN raise dues on the 25 wealthiest nations by 0.1%.

4. SWR’s is working to increasing public awareness of the destruction of the rainforests and helping to restoring the natural rainforest.

5. SWR will use volunteers to plant new trees in areas where the forest was as well as create learning centers in these four nations to help increase public knowledge.

6. SWR will train specialized teachers for the Learning Centers and will train special teachers/biologists to help calculate where to plant trees and how many trees to plant.

7. SWR will take place for five years. If the program is making good progress (decreasing the total rainforest destruction by 25%) will continue until a. another eight years or b. the problem has ceased.
