Here are the resolution ideas and the UN priority plans that Honors Middle School Model UN students came up with at the 2018 session.

Proposed Operative Clauses:

Group 1: Natural Disasters

  1. The UN maintains an emergency fund to help aid in the immediate consequences & prevent further damage to the country. Base it off of previous disasters, but also take into consideration current situation. Nations can spend funds as they see fit.

Group 2: Climate Change Causes

  1. The UN will create an education committee focused on climate change called the Climate Change Educators (CCE). They will create social media campaigns, curriculum, as well as print media to raise awareness of the issue of climate change and its effects. Ads will include ways to lower CO2 Use incentives & rewards. PASSED
  2. The UN will create a climate control committee that will focus on the USA and China. The committee will partner with Ford to manufacture alternative energy cars. Depending on the success of the program we will expand to other nations. Group will measure CO2 emissions to ensure progress. Check in after 5 years before expanding. Group 3: Habitats

  1. We will help Pacific Islands & undeveloped countries like Maldives first and help by building floating homes and schools to help people not have to leave. We will then move on to more developed countries like Japan & Italy. Boats would include safety equipment.

  2. In order to reduce the quickly melting ice caps, we would like to implement a global awareness program. Partner with governments & widely respected people from different countries to raise awareness of current issues.

  1. Urban farms/Building vertically. Apartments would have greenspace/plants included.

Group 1: Natural Disasters

  1. In prep. for natural disasters, the UN will provide the top 25 nations with the smallest landmass area, lowest GDP, and highest vulnerability to natural disasters with alarm systems. In addition, the UN should provide a document to each country informing government officials and citizens alike of how to prepare for natural disasters and what to do once the alarm has sounded.

  1. The United Nations will send medical care supplies, food, and set up sanitary shelters for displaced citizens with doctors stationed in each establishment. We would like to request aid from organizations such as the Red Cross & existing UN programs. Support will be temporary not long-term.

  1. UN will create a committee called the ECC (Education on Climate Change). The committee will publish research, create a social media campaign, do an ad campaign, and promote sustainability. Focus is on industrial nations.

The UN will create a committee called the World Pollution Solution (WPS) that will incentivize countries by paying them a sum of money if they convert 5% of their energy sources to inexhaustible energy sources per year.   1. Restrict new construction within a half a mile of coastal areas on Pacific Islands to protect residents and sea turtles. Request governments tax builders who violate this. Raise dues if nations do not comply.

  2. Restrict fishing in Artic communities to certain times of the year and to a minimum size of fish to provide more food for polar animals who are endangered. Help those communities with agricultural advancements for shorter growing seasons. Recruit volunteers from universities to help explain/assist. Monitor fishing with licenses/size limits. Use port guards to help enforce this.

  1. We will raise dues on the top 15 CO2 producing countries by 50% & the other 40 most contributing nations by 10%. If nations do not comply, the businesses responsible for the pollution will make up the difference over time. If a nation decreases their emissions by 20%, 10% will be taken off their dues owed.
