Resolution GA-01 May 5

Re.:                             Healthcare and Women’s Rights

Submitted to:             General Assembly

Submitted by:            Ecuador

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Whereas Article 5 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”, and

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Having considered one in four women over 15 years old in Ecuador have been victims of sexual violence (according to official statistics). Abortion is a health and life risk, and

Alarmed that women’s rights are not being considered and followed, and

Observing that 36% of women in union reported that there most recent pregnancy was unintended. Also, 19% of women in the union said that their pregnancy was unwanted. 16% said their pregnancy was mistimed, and

Recognizing that countries like Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Colombia have mistimed and unwanted pregnancies,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. The United Nations will begin a program called the Female Family Protective Organization. (F.F.P.O.)
  2. We will help solve this problem by putting commercials on TV telling boys and men that if the conduct sexual abuse they will receive a severe punishment. ($1,500 locally)
  3. We will also provide police with a “help package”. The package will have a pregnancy test and a first aid kit. (About 20,000 police officers)
  4. Each pregnancy test costs about $2-$3, so we would spend about $40,000. Each first aid kit costs $10, so we would spend $200,000 on those.
  5. We would create a hotline to call if you are unsure about the situation at hand or if you were already sexually abused. ($70 to set up, $15 per month from there)
  6. To get the money, we would slightly increase the dues for the 10 wealthiest nations.
  7. This program will last until the percentage of women abused goes down to 1-5%.

Resolution GA-02 May 5

Re.:                             Zika Virus in the Caribbean

Submitted to:            General Assembly

Submitted by:            Cuba

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Whereas Article 25, section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born or in out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.”, and

Alarmed there is no vaccine to prevent the virus, and there is no medicine to treat it, and

Aware that the Zika virus is transmitted by an infected person getting bit by a Aedes mosquito first detected in 1947 in Africa then spread to Asia, and

Concerned the Zika Virus initially spreads when the mosquito bites a person but can then spread through sexual contact and other bodily fluids, and

Fully aware 34 countries or territories have confirmed cases of Zika in the Western Hemisphere, and

Keeping in mind people who travel to Brazil for the Olympics or the Caribbean can spread the virus back to their home countries, and

Deeply concerned the Zika virus causes birth defects, the most serious of which is microcephaly, that is where the baby’s head and brain is smaller than it should be, can cause severe developmental issues and sometimes death, and

Affirming more than 4,000 cases of microcephaly since May 2015 have been reported in Brazil, and

In addition, the Zika virus can also cause Guillain-Barre which is a rare auto-immune disorder that can lead to life-threatening paralysis, and

Shocked that the head of the World Health Organization with another WHO official stated that the Zika virus “is now spreading explosively” in the Americas, estimating between 3 million to 4 million infections in the region over the next 12-month period,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. United Nations create the Zika Prevention Organization (ZPO). The goal is to prevent the spread of the Zika virus, educate the population of the Americas and to develop a vaccine.
  2. ZPO will be in charge of organizing the destruction of the habitat of mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus in areas hardest hit by the virus. In addition, a public awareness campaign that encourages people in areas with outbreaks of the Zika virus to take practical measures to prevent mosquito bites, such as wear long sleeves, don’t go out at dawn and dusk, and wear mosquito spray. It will also make aware people that once a person has been infected with the Zika virus, it can then be spread through sexual contact.
  3. ZPO will advertise with public service announcements on TV, radio and print using baseball and soccer athletes in addition to athletes from the 2016 Brazilian Olympics to get the message out to people of the Americas.
  4. ZPO will coordinate the raising of funds by requesting the United Nations raises dues by 5% from the 10 wealthiest countries (which would raise 95 million dollars) for vaccine research and rigorous testing to assure its safety. The goal will be a vaccine that will be completed by 2016, and be ready for the public after 2018.
  5. ZPO will last for 2 years. After 2 years, if the virus continues to spread or a vaccine is not ready for the public it will be renewed for another 2 years until the Zika virus is under control.
  6. If the program is renewed the United Nations will request taxes/charges will be added on airline tickets and cruises to the Caribbean to increase the funding for the ZPO.

Resolution GA-03 May 5

Re.:                            Water scarcity in Sub-Saharan Africa

Submitted to:             General Assembly

Submitted by:            Swaziland

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 3 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person.”, and

Concerned that 40% of Swaziland’s population does not have access to clean water, and

Noting that 90% of citizens depend on the 10% of groundwater available, and

Aware of 3,000 boreholes drilled in Swaziland since 1986, and

Noting with deep concern that over 100 children die every year from water born illnesses caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation in Swaziland, and

Recognizing that Swaziland’s environmental issues are due to excessive hunting, soil degradation, overgrazing and soil erosion,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. The United Nations works with UNICEF to send Swaziland 1,000,000 pills to treat stomach parasites as well as 330,000 basic family water kits.
  2. The United Nations works with UNICEF to supply 300,000 water purification tablets to Swaziland.
  3. The United Nations works with UNICEF to provide 1,120 water pumps to Swaziland.
  4. The United Nations creates the Clean Water Program (UNCWP). UNCWP would have 50 workers in each of Swaziland’s 28 cities.  The mission of this group would be to operate and maintain the provided water pumps.  The UNCWP would make sure the medicine and water kits were distributed fairly throughout the Swaziland population.
  5. To fund UNCWP we are requesting $70,000,000 to be spent as follows:
  • $20,000 for 1,000,000 stomach pills
  • $4,635,750 for 330,000 basic water kits
  • $560,000 for 1,120 water pumps
  • $180,000 for 300,000 water purification tablets
  • Salary for UNCWP workers is $650 per month for 4 years. = $43,680,000
  • 5 flatbed trucks for each city. = $6,300,000
  • 6 vans for each city. = $5,040,000
  • $5,000 to supply each worker with uniforms, electronic devices, etc.= $700,000
  • The remaining $8,884,250 will be put towards fuel, lodging, other incidentals

Resolution GA-04 May 5

Re.:                             The Syrian Refugee Crisis

Submitted to:            General Assembly

Submitted by:            Lebanon

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”, and

Whereas Article 25, section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance. All children, whether born or in out of wedlock, shall enjoy the same social protection.”, and

Emphasizing that many Syrians are coming into Lebanon, overpopulating it, and squishing the original Lebanese people out of it, or making it too crowded. Also other countries such as Germany, France, and Sweden are also taking in too many refugees and are becoming more crowded, and

Observing that the camps in Lebanon are not safe for the refugees to live in, but it is their only other place to go, and get away (camps are “inhumane”), and

Stating that most of the refugees travel to Jordan and Lebanon, but sadly those two countries have very limited resources and that makes bad living environments, and

Alarmed by how 1.3 million people in Lebanon are Syrian Refugees, and

Appearing that the most current revised budget is $556.8 million for the financial requirements for Lebanon is costed on UNHCR,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. The UNHCR will establish the organization: RIGHTSS (Refugees In a Global Hurry from The Syrian Struggle). The goal of this organization will be to solve (funding camps, rebuilding Syria) the refugee crisis in war affected areas near Syria, educate the world about refugees and begin to negotiate the end of hostilities in Syria. We will negotiate a ceasefire to all sides to start the beginning of the end of the Syrian War at the UN headquarters in New York.
  2. First is to get a lasting ceasefire by the end of the year negotiated by the UN Security Council. The next goal is to negotiate a political settlement with all warring parties that will remove Bashir Assad as President in Syria with asylum in Iran again negotiated by the UN security Council. The goal is to have a negotiated peace treaty in 2 years that all parties will agree and sign. The next goal is to have a working government with Sunnis and Shiites within 2 years of the peace treaty.
  1. Address the Syrian Refugee problem in the countries that took the largest amount of refugees which are Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan and Syria, and persuade countries around the world to adopt a refugee camp within these countries and pledge to pay a portion of the operating costs. Also countries will be encouraged to take in a number of refugees from the camps to help overcrowding and to give hope to those in the camps.
  2. In addition, RIGHTSS will have fundraisers for donations for clothing, food, and donations of money to help those three countries to get the resources they need to supply the refugees. This will help educate the world about the plight of refugees driven from their home by war and the cycle of poverty that it creates.
  3. In order to pay for the rebuilding of Syria, the full funding of Syrian refugee immigration and settlement to countries throughout the world, and repayment to the countries of Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan for their effort to support the refugee camps in their countries, a 10 cent tax on each barrel of oil sold will be imposed.
    1. 80 million barrels of oil are produced each day
    2. 10 cents a barrel X 80 million barrels = $800,000 a day
    3. 30 days X $800,000 = 24,000,000
    4. 12 months X 24,000,000 =288,000,000
    5. The surcharge on each barrel can be readjusted to meet the needs of the program. Not to exceed 50 cents per barrel.
  4. The purpose of the tax on oil is to generate a large sum of money to create peace in the region as quickly as possible so that children will go to school, stop the cycle of war and poverty which are rich recruiting grounds for terrorist.
  5. RIGHTSS goal is to rebuild and stop the war in Syria and Iraq. Every 2 years RIGHTSS will be re-evaluated to modify and better address the problems of Syria. After 6 years the General Assembly will vote to reaffirm the program and address the successes and failures of RIGHTSS.
  6. RIGHTSS will use any funds left over to help refugees in areas of crisis around the world until the UN General Assembly shuts down the program.

Re.:                             Geothermal for all

Submitted to:            General Assembly

Submitted by:            Iceland

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 25, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care, and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age, or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.”, and

Concerned that Swaziland will need more efficient means of energy production than diesel, coal and other nonrenewable resources, and

Noting that Swaziland has 60 mw of hydropower, and Iceland mainly uses geothermal power as a renewable source of energy. And the world will be benefitted by this by less impact on the world and reduced speed of global warming, and

Recognizing that Iceland has donated $5,000,000 toward the building of a Geothermal plant in Swaziland while it costs around $92 per kilowatt hour, and

Keeping in mind that Icelandic cities are at sea level, and that with sea levels rising due to global warming, they could be forever drowned. Millions of people would be killed, and

Ashamed that Swaziland has 9 mw diesel power per hour, 16% of power is by coal, and 23% is by petroleum products,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. Build a geothermal plant at the capital of Swaziland, Mbabane.
  2. Pledge 5 million dollars towards geothermal energy in Swaziland.
  3. Be responsible for the care and managing of the Geothermal plant in Swaziland.
  4. This project will be continued forever, and after the plants are completed, we will see about building geothermal plants in surrounding countries.

Resolution GA-05 May 6

Re.:                             Women’s Rights in Developing Countries

Submitted to:            General Assembly

Submitted by:            Indonesia

Date:                           May 5, 2016

Whereas Article 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.”, and

Whereas Article 2 section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without any distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.”, and

Whereas Article 16 section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage, and at its dissolution.”, and

Whereas Article 16 section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.”, and

Whereas Article 23 section 2 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to equal pay for equal work.”, and

Whereas Article 26, section 1 of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS states, “Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.”, and

Whereas the United Nations defines violence against women as “any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life.”, and

Shocked that women in Indonesia vying to become police officers are refused the job if they are not virgins, and

Appalled that women are not offered the level of education and rights given to men, and two thirds of the world’s illiterate adults are women, and

Realizing women’s rights have been denied too long, and

Appalled that 1 in 3 women worldwide are subject or have been subject to domestic violence in their lifetime. Violence affects women’s mental, physical, and emotional health; causes major health problems; and violates women’s human rights, and

Whereas 17% of women in rural Tanzania, 24% in rural Peru, and 30% in rural Bangladesh reported that their first sexual experience was forced, and

Dismayed that countries including Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia, women usually lose their land when they are widowed because their entitlement to the land is founded on their marriage, and

Angered that in African societies, fetching water is strictly women’s work, belittling for a man, and

Appalled that more than one thousand women are killed in Pakistan every year for dishonoring their families. Women who dishonor their families are usually rape victims, accused of having sex before marriage, and committing adultery, and

Dismayed that one third of girls in the developing world are married before the age of 18 and one in nine are married before the age of 15, and

Realizing that, “In many countries, child marriage is prohibited, but existing laws are often not enforced or provide exceptions for parental consent or traditional and customary laws. Child marriage reinforces gender inequality and violates human rights. Tolerating any injustice makes it easier for others to exist.”

Whereas, the peoples of the United Nations have in the Charter reaffirmed their faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person and in the equal rights of men and women and have determined to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.”, and

Whereas, recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”,

Be It Hereby Resolved That The General Assembly:

  1. Continue with the UN organization the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM)
  2. Introduce a new organization named, Global Women’s Rights (GWR)
  3. The goal of GWR is to increase education in women, which empowers them to make plans and decisions for their future. Higher education in women also leads to less fertility which means a better outcome for future children and girls.
  4. GWR will send teachers into developing countries with a low respect for women’s rights where women will go to gain a higher education, lower fertility, and become empowered to therefore start to demand equal rights.
  5. To achieve lasting results, we need to create an education program Stop Violence in Woman (SVW) that 1) addresses discrimination against women, 2) promotes gender equality, and 3) teaches about prevention of violence against women.
  6. This program will be implemented into the top seven countries that have violence against women. These countries include, Afghanistan, an African country named Chad, Somalia, the Dominican Republic of Congo, Pakistan, Swaziland, and Lesotho.
  7. Another goal of SVW is to 1) increase self-confidence in women, 2) encourage women to stand up for themselves, 3) support them, and 4) move towards peaceful cultural norms for women.
  8. To fund this program, we will request grants from different non-for-profit organizations dealing with women’s rights such as Girls not Brides and Women’s Global Empowerment Fund. We will also create our own fundraising programs that will increase awareness to the lack of women’s rights, and provide money for our cause.
  9. The organizations GWR and SVW will cost around $5,000,000 to implement into each country. Therefore, the entire cost will be around $35,000,000.
  10. To raise this amount for our programs, we will raise the dues on all the United Nations countries by 1.5%, which when calculating this profit, will give us roughly $38,000,000. By raising the dues by only 1.5%, we have paid for our entire program with an added extra bonus.
  11. GWR and SVW will continue in the previously stated countries for ten years- which at that time the UN will gather to evaluate any changes towards women’s rights. If there hasn’t been any progression, a new resolution will be created to better improve equal rights. If there has been, GWR and SVW will continue for five more years to ensure total progression and improvement for women’s rights in developing countries.
