Photos from Attacking Apathy with JustMomsSTL - CIVITAS-STL

This year’s Civitas kickoff event was a special discussion/presentation dealing with what students could do to thwart apathy in their communities. We had 3 guests from JustMomsSTL, Dawn, Debi, and Christen. Each woman shared their personal story about how they became active in raising awareness about the radioactive waste at Westlake Landfill. From talking to neighbors and starting an online community, then watching it snowball as they alerted the press, local politicians, and even having a meeting at the White House; It was amazing what a single person could do to improve their community. (Not that their problem is solved by a long shot.) During the morning, we also took time to let students talk about problems in their own communities which included the heroin epidemic, anxiety issues, school troubles, and gun violence. Here are some photos from the event.
