Student Reflection on Open Discussion Groups

This blog piece was written by one of our students, Yuktha Rayani. The opinions expressed herein do not reflect those of Civitas other than respect for the value of open dialogue.

The first Civitas event I went to this year was the post-midterms elections discussion. I was a
little nervous because I was scared to step into a new environment where I didn’t know anyone. I
remember walking in and immediately loving it. That library meeting room was a place that
formulated educated discussions in a way that made everyone participating extremely
comfortable. The speaker was interactive and the topic engaging. We also had a follow up
discussion after midterms. I love that at all Civitas events we discuss topics that are relevant in
our current day. This first meeting convinced me to come back to as many meetings as I possibly
could because of how perfect it was. The opportunities that Civitas provides are truly incredible
and this organization always considers the kids involved. Speaking of kids, Civitas events are
also a great way to meet kids from all over St. Louis. From museum tours to trivia nights,
speaker discussions, and Model UN, there’s something for everyone at Civitas. At the end of the
day, you always come back with a little more knowledge from any event you go to.
