Guest Speaker Senator Brian Williams - CIVITAS-STL

Guest Speaker Senator Brian Williams

Saturday, October 19, Civitas is hosting Senator Brian Williams to come speak with students. Sen. Williams was elected to serve district MO-14, which covers a huge swath of land including Clayton, Ferguson, and goes as far northeast as Earth City.

Some of the topics we suggested to Brian Williams are listed below. We encourage students to ask their own questions or steer the conversation to what interests them.

  • The challenges of being a member of the minority party in the state legislature.
  • Is the state legislature an accurate representation of Missouri? How has gerrymandering affected representation?
  • The nuts and bolts of being a state senator.
  • The challenges of representing a district with socioeconomic diversity.
  • Campaign finance and ethics in Missouri politics.
  • Opinions on the Vote16USA campaign.
  • Thoughts on the idea of consolidating St. Louis City and St. Louis County.
  • How high schoolers can get more involved in state politics.

This program is free for high school students.
The event will be at the Civitas Hub from 9-11 am on Saturday, Oct. 19th.
Light breakfast snacks will be provided.
Please RSVP below.
